Javier Arrey was born in Valdivia, Chile where he first studied piano and musical theory. Later he studied singing with Professor Hanns Stein at the Universidad de Chile, Santiago, and choir conducting at the Teatro Municipal.

In 2006 he took part in the Neue Stimmen master class with Katia Ricciarelli, Francisco Araiza, Siegfried Jerusalem and Gustav Kuhn. He has also interpreted baroque music, mainly Bach, with Hans-Joachim Rotzsch in Leipzig.

His repertoire includes Conte (Le nozze di Figaro), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Guglielmo and Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Figaro (II barbiere di Siviglia); the baritone solo parts in Handel's Messiah, Brahms' Requiem, Fauré's Requiem, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Bach's Christmas Oratorio and St John Passion.

His Lieder repertoire includes Schumann's Dichterliebe, Dvorák's Biblical Songs and Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. He has performed under conductors such as Daniel Montané, Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, Gustav Kuhn, Jan Latham-König, Hans-Joachim Rotzsch and Andreas Mitisek.

Javier was a semi-finalist at Operalia 2007, and a finalist in Competizione dell'Opera, SemperOper, Dresden in 2008. He was selected by Dolora Zajick to join her programme at the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices in Orem, Utah in July this year.

Javier enjoys performing as piano accompanist for popular music singers and his main hobby is international cooking.
