Jarvis's Horse

Gan Noel Cleverley, Llay

One night, a German bomber dropped a bomb just to the south of Llay (just alongside the cemetery) where Jarvis grazed his horse over night. (Jarvis was the local coal merchant).

The bomb was obviously intended for the colliery but he dropped it about a mile short of his target.

The horse was blown over the top of a tree in the field but was not killed.

He was treated for his wound and thereafter it could be seen pulling the coal cart around the village with a scar on its flank.
