The night before DDAY

By Mansel Rees, Aberdare

I can clearly remember the night of 5/6th June, 1944 D Day. We were in bed, blown our candles out, and settled down for the night. Just after one o'clock we were all awake due to the almighty row overhead.

My father carried me on his shoulders in to the garden. Overhead there were masses of low flying aircraft of all shapes. All we could see was the trail of flames and the roar of their exhaust. Historical moment for anyone to remember.
