Welsh fantasy novel triumphs
"There isn't enough fantasy writing in Welsh and I felt this genre needed more attention." said Ifan Morgan Jones (24) who today won the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize for best novel .
Ifan is a journalist from Waunfawr, near Caernarfon, and his winning novel is called Igam Ogam (Zig-zag). Judges compared it to Terry Pratchett's work. It's about Tomos, a young man working in Cardiff, who gets called back home to look after the family farm. He soon gets sucked into Mabinogwlad - a magical kingdom hidden behind the farm's fireplace.
