Cleaning up Towyn

Over 1,000 homes are flooded as gales breach sea-wall defences in Towyn.

The flooding of Towyn was particularly difficult for the town's elderly residents, many of whom had been evacuated when the town's sea defences had been breached by strong gales.

Thirty people were rescued and taken to hospital suffering mostly from hypothermia. The floods also brought with them the danger of sewage contamination and gas leaks.

For many evacuated residents, operations to rebuild the sea-wall defences and clean up the watery choas could not start soon enough.
