Joseph Cairns, Kidwelly
Joe tells us that it was at the start of the strike when he and his young family moved to Godregraig in the lower Swansea Valley where most of the community were striking miners.
"These men, monsters of men, were in a terrible situation and the hardship they were suffering was evident for everyone to see. But even in their time of struggle, the kindness, integrity and downright honesty shown by these people was remarkable and it restored my faith in human nature."
