Caesars Rome

Last updated: 30 April 2010

Since forming in 2007, this Welsh rock band is one of the new scene of likely contenders.

Caesars Rome have a set of influences recognisable to any fan of punk and post-hardcore of the last 15 years: "We're influenced by bands like Thrice, Jimmy Eat World, Brand New and Hot Water Music," says frontman Jonathan Hopkins.

Hopkins is joined by Kyle Smith (guitar), Richard Berry (drums) and Ashley Cocco (bass). Soon after forming, the band won Xfm Radio's Unsigned Artist of the Week, gaining them plays on the national indie station.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1's Introducing in Wales show also picked up on the band and Caesars Rome recorded a four track session with Bethan Elfyn. Huw Stephens picked up on them too and so national Radio 1 plays came their way.

They signed a deal with Century Media/EMI for the release of their debut LP, The Company We Keep, which came out in February 2010.

The album was recorded in Cardiff's Longwave studios with local poducer of note, Romesh Dodangoda, who has made a name for himself recording virtually all the new generation of Welsh rock bands.

Hopkins says of the album, "The songs and lyrics themselves tell a story from start to finish of our evolution as friends, how moods and situations can change us and how we continue to develop the strong relationships with people that surround our lives - friends, family, lovers and so on."
