Roy Jenkins

Christmas programme

All Things Considered (Sunday 24 December at 8.30am, repeated Thursday 28 December at 6.03 pm) visits a place in Flintshire which captures a unique sense of the spirit of this season.

Plas Bellin Hall looks like a comfortable country house hotel but is, in fact, a refuge for a lot of people who without it would be pretty desperate this Christmas.

It's 30 years since Edna Speed initiated the work which led to Save the Family, a charity which has served literally thousands of homeless people in north east Wales and the north west of England.

Roy Jenkins meets some of the residents and staff and talks to Edna Speed about the faith that compelled her to begin helping homeless families, and of how the Nativity story speaks to the changing face of homelessness today.
