In a week when everyone from politicians to the Welsh rugby squad is doing silly things in aid of a good cause, Roy Jenkins and a panel of guests explore the relationship between religion and humour on All Things Considered (Sunday 11 March at 8.31am, repeated Thursday 15 March at 6.03pm).
Among the attractions lined up to generate laughs are a special episode of The Vicar of Dibley and an I Can't Believe It's Comedy event in which four comedians from different faiths give what's billed as their hilarious take on life.
But, what are the links between religion and humour? Why are funny stories often so useful for expressing profound truths? And how do we decide whether religious jokes are amusing or offensive?
Joining Roy to discuss these issues are David Weitzman, an orthodox Jew, Stephen Tomkins, writer, preacher, and contributing editor for the satirical Christian website , Sally Humble Jackson, writer and performer, and Ray Bevan, the senior pastor at Kings Church, Newport.
