Remembering the Pope's visit to Wales
On All Things Considered this week (Sunday 3 June at 8.31am repeated Wednesday 6 June at 6.32pm) Roy Jenkins presents a documentary to mark the 25th anniversary of the visit of Pope John Paul the Second to Wales.
Still recovering from an attempt on his life, he had won hearts across Britain, and the visit to Cardiff was an enthusiastic carnival of a climax, with a huge mass at Pontcanna Fields and a youth gathering at Ninian Park which had all the fervour - and the volume - of a pop concert.
A quarter of a century on, we hear from people touched by that day -among them the 16 year old who is now a prison chaplain, the boy of 11 whose solo flute was heard by millions, and the priest who organised the stewards and is now a bishop.
They reflect on what it meant to them then, and the extent to which being part of that historic event has left a mark on them.
