The Power of Dreams
On this week's All Things Considered (Sunday 7 October at 8.31am, repeated on Wednesday 10 October at 6.32pm), Roy Jenkins travels to the very end of the Lleyn Peninsula to meet the Rev Evelyn Davies who has just retired as Vicar of Aberdaron after seven years in the job. But in that comparatively short time she has achieved much.
When Evelyn came to Aberdaron it was as a result of a dream; that she should go to lead the restoration of the run-down church of St Hywyn. £350,000 worth of fundraising effort later, that mission has been accomplished.
One of her predecessors was the poet and priest R S Thomas, and during the programme we hear of the way in which Evelyn was inspired by his writing Roy discusses her unshakeable faith in the face of much personal suffering and loss.
We hear how dreams - it appears - have guided her throughout her life, during which she has also been a counsellor to cancer sufferers.
