Church For Men / Life Exhibition

Women outnumber men in churches by at least two to one. In many places the proportion is much greater. But why?

Is it just that women are more religious? Or has something happened to a church whose leadership is still overwhelmingly male which frightens off other men? And what are the long term prospects if the trend continues?

In this week's All Things Considered Roy Jenkins talks to David Murrow who has spent several years researching these questions. He is Director of Church for Men and his firm though sometimes controversial views on the matter form a book Why Men Hate Going to Church.

Roy caught up with him on the eve of his speaking tour in Wales and other parts of the UK.

Also, we visit Caldicot Methodist Church to hear about a 'hands-on interactive learning experience'.

The Life exhibition, which is on its first visit to Wales, has already been used in schools and churches across Britain as a means of enabling youngsters to explore the life and teachings of Jesus. Twelve hundred are booked for this week alone, and we joined pupils of St Mary's Junior School on their tour.
