All Things Considered:Timothy Radcliffe, OP

Timothy Radcliffe, OP

'Charming. Engaging, easy on the eye, unequivocally English, quite grand background, and genuinely holy.' That's a description which has been made about Roy Jenkins' guest on "All Things Considered" this week (Sunday 15 March at 8.30am, repeated Wednesday 18 March at 6.30pm).

Timothy Radcliffe, is one of the leading thinkers in the Catholic Church in Britain. Until a few years ago he was based in Rome as Master of the Dominicans, the Roman Catholic Order of Preachers with ten thousand friars and nuns in more than a hundred countries. His name is often mentioned among candidates for the next Archbishop of Westminster, and he's credited with a rare gift for being able to communicate his faith.

He's now followed his award-winning book, What is the point of being a Christian? with a Lent book for the Archbishop of Canterbury with the stark title Why Go To Church?

In this interview, recorded at Blackfriars Priory, Oxford, Fr. Timothy talks about why he chose religious life, his understanding of the Eucharist and his views on celibacy and the role of women in the Catholic Church.
