All Things Considered this week (Sunday 19 April at 8.30am, repeated Wednesday 22 April at 6.30pm) visits the RHS Show Cardiff. Thousands of enthusiasts come to this event to see some of the most glorious blooms from nurseries across the UK, and to pick up tips on everything from getting the allotment to produce more, to imaginative landscaping and making the smallest space a place of escape. But our particular attention is on a project in which escape assumes a very literal perspective. The Sanctuary Garden, which won the Silver Gilt Medal at the Show, is created by eleven churches in Cardiff, and focuses on issues surrounding asylum seekers in this country, for whom 'getting away from it all' has involved acute danger and anxiety.

Bringing together churches, refugees, and a local designer, the garden draws on the experience of those who have come to Wales looking for sanctuary. Roy Jenkins talks to those behind its idea and design; seeks the views of the Archbishop of Wales, Dr. Barry Morgan and talks to asylum seekers about their lives, faith and the experiences which have led them to a life of exile in Wales.
