On 'All Things Considered' this week (Sunday 28 June at 8.30am, repeated on Wednesday 1 July at 6.30pm), Roy Jenkins' guest is one of Britain's most influential religious leaders - despite the fact that his community is one of the smallest.
He is a familiar voice on radio, and his views are widely sought - not least in Downing Street.
Sir Jonathan Sacks has been Chief Rabbi for nineteen years. To be precise, he is Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregation of the Commonwealth, which means he carries no responsibility for Jews of the Reform and Liberal persuasions. But he's without doubt Judaism's most authoritative figure in this country.
He began his career as an academic, led two London synagogues, and has produced a stream of books which have combined scholarship with accessibility, and been widely read outside the Jewish community.
His latest has just been published: Future Tense - a vision for Jews and Judaism in the global culture.
