Whether it is Wimbledon or the World Cup, inquests on the limitations of Welsh rugby or anticipation of the Ryder Cup, it's hard to avoid sport at the moment.
How important is sporting success to how a nation feels about itself?
To what extent has professional sport with its stadium-cathedrals, its worship of cult heroes, its liturgy of chants and celebratory songs actually become a substitute religion?
And how are Christian churches relating to all this?
