Eye On Wales: Monday 9 July

Fishguard marina plans

Monday 9 July at 6.32pm
(repeated Sunday 15 July at 6.31am)

Plans to develop a marina in Fishguard are on hold until the courts resolve a dispute over the ownership of a lengthy stretch of the Pembrokeshire coastline.

Lawyers are also arguing over who owns some 20,000 acres of foreshore on the Welsh side of the Severn Estuary.

Central to both cases is Welsh businessman Mark Roberts, who bases his claims of ownership on his possession of ancient titles of Lord Marcher.

Mr Roberts says he can prove his legal rights to the land; others doubt that his arguments will stand up in court.

This week Eye on Wales investigates an area where law and history intertwine.
