A new approach to the way Wales manages and prepares for floods may mean a move away from building ever-bigger defences and allowing some areas to flood to ensure that communities further down river aren't swamped.
Triggered by the latest predictions of rising sea levels, and announced in the wake of the floods which inundated large parts of England this summer, Environment Minister Jane Davidson has ordered a three-year programme to refresh flooding policy.
Its aim is develop a new strategy which involves "working with nature, rather than against it."
This week's Eye on Wales hears from Welsh communities that have suffered flooding in the past and talks to experts about the implications of what's known as flood risk management.
