Post Office closures

It's called Network Change. It means that an estimated 200 Post Offices will close across Wales in the next few months as part of a Government-driven strategy to stem spiralling losses and return a once-profitable business into the black.

As the closure notices go up, spirited local campaigns follow in their wake, but the early indications are that most of those will be doomed to failure.

The Post Office hopes that its radical surgery will put an end to the steady drift of sub postmasters away from the business and secure the long-term future of those branches that are left behind. But there are warnings that the proposed closures - which will eventually total 2,500 across the UK- may not be enough to insure against further rounds of cuts.

Eye on Wales asks if Network Change can deliver the goods for the Post Office. Or, with whole communities feeling that they've been let down by an old and trusted friend, is one of the country's best-loved institutions in danger of losing its way?
