Mental health problems

One in four of us will, at some stage in our lives, experience mental health problems. When that happens, help can be patchy. But is change in the air?

There are plans to use the National Assembly's new powers to deliver a new deal for mental health service users in Wales in what's been described as the last great social reform.

The proposal is to give people with severe mental illnesses more say over their assessment and treatment through what's known as a Legislative Competence Order.

That would also allow the Assembly to make changes to the 2007 Mental Health Act for England and Wales - legislation that mental health charities view as a missed opportunity.

Will the politician's prescription work? Eye on Wales hears from those who know the system inside out.
