On 11 March, the world watched as Japan was struck by an earthquake and tsunami. Alex Drummond, was teaching in the sticken area. His mother Eve was in Bridgend....

For this week's Eye On Wales, they tell their story.

On that fateful date, Alex Drummond (pictured) was sitting in the staff room of the secondary school he was teaching.

He was based in the fishing village of Shiogama, near Sendai in North East Japan.

His mother, Eve Drummond, was at home in Bridgend.

Their lives were about to be shaken by one of the biggest natural disasters of our time.

Their story provides a unique insight in to the calamitous events of that day, of Alex's escape to Wales to raise funds for Japan, and his eventual return to the country he's grown to love.
