Heritage at Risk

Ten per cent of Wales's historic listed buildings are at risk of being lost to future generations. Responsibility for stepping in when a building is at risk is down to local councils...but how ready are they to act?

Last updated: 16 October 2011

This week's programme focuses on heritage campaigners fighting to save two buildings at risk in Gwynedd, North Wales, and highlights their frustrations with what they see as the local council's reluctance to step in and use their powers to protect them by taking enforcement action or other interventions.

The programme also hears from archictural historian Mark Baker, who says Wales has a "shocking" number of listed buildings at risk - 10 per cent of Wales' 30,000 listed properties are on local authority "buildings at risk" registers.

Reporter Chris Dearden asks if enough is being done to preserve our past, for the future?
