Living with HIV

HIV was first talked about in the 1980s. Since then the science has improved, but what's it like to live with the virus? As World AIDS Day approaches, Eye On Wales talks to three of the hundreds of people in Wales who live with HIV.

An HIV and sexual health charity which offers a wide range of support services, including emotional support and information by phone, help with accessing HIV testing, treatment advice and counselling. Whatever your sexuality, HIV status, gender, cultural background or ethnic origin, THT has services set up with your needs in mind. If you're affected by HIV, then they'll try to help.

Body Positive Cheshire and North Wales
There are two full time Floating Support Workers who can be accessed via the Sexual Health Clinics in Bangor, Bodelwyddan and Wrexham. Their services focus on housing specific support needs for people living with HIV.

Offers emotional, physical, practical and social support to adults, teens and children, living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. They have a drop-in-centre which is open daily between 11am and 3.30pm five days a week that offers a range of complimentary therapies. Aids Trust Cymru also has two support teams, able to provide one to one support in people's homes to ensure that they are able to live as full a life as possible.

A national charity championing the rights of people living with HIV. They also provide a new service for 16-24 year olds living with HIV, led by young people also living with HIV.
