The New Zealand Surfing Guide has 470+ custom break maps. It pinpoints every great beach and every great break and gives you all the secrets on how to get there and it is dealt with in passionate detail by experts.
It is a tidy brick of a book (550 pages) nicely packaged and easy to use and is a must have for any surfer planning a kiwi surf mission.
The book is broken down into twenty one sections featuring detailed area weather analysis, wetsuit recommendations, driving maps and highly detailed surf spot maps. It is filled with every New Zealand surf break you could imagine plus a whole lot more.
Highly detailed individual break maps give surfers all the information they will need to get the most out of their surf session. Nifty icons offer quick info about each spot including classification, wind, swell, hazards, sections and jump-off rocks. A cool feature is the stoke meter which accompanies each map rating the spot from 1-10.
OTL regular/surf traveller extraordinaire - Rattz recently put the book through it's paces on a 3 week surf + destroy mission to NZ. Here's what he thought of it...
"I asked what the surf was doing and basically got told I'd have to drive for an hour and a half before finding any. Knocked it on the head and bought a 'New Zealand Surf Handbook' which ended up being my bible for the whole holiday!
I gotta hand it to the guys who put this book together, it flippin' rocks! - it tells you locations, swell direction, wind direction, stoke factor, sharky waters, seals and covers 400+ places to surf. The thing is with the Kiwi's, is that they're really spoilt by small populations, so there's always relatively empty lineups.
A book like this just wouldn't be as detailed anywhere else. Even better was the fact that it's super small so not as cumbersome as some surf books."
