See our pictures and more. Nova International and Sunderland City Council brought The BUPA Great Women's Run back for its third successive year and took place on Sunday June 15, 2008. See our pictures of the 2008 Great Women's Run here: 2007 saw over 3,000 women taking part and you can help break that record this year by getting involved. The 10km course stretches along the coastline of Seaburn and Roker area in Sunderland and is suitable for all female runners and joggers of all abilities. Two parts of the run that set it apart from many other runs are the 300m run on the sand of Roker beach followed by a short run all the way around Roker Pier. See pictures of previous Great Women's Run events: Marie Curie Cancer CareThe official charity of the BUPA Great Women's Run is Marie Curie Cancer Care and 大象传媒 Radio Newcastle's Sue Sweeney is encouraging women to sign up. She said: "I've always supported Marie Curie Cancer Care and admire the dedication of this worthy charity as the leader in specialist end-of-life care. "I'm appealing to women everywhere to sign up to the run, whether it's in memory of someone or simply to be thankful for their own health. Sue wants all women to get involved! "Every 拢20 raised for the run will provide an hour of free Marie Curie nursing care, so get your running shoes on and start training." Preparing for the Olympics on WearsideLiz Yelling will be taking part this year against big names such as Ethiopia's Gete Wami who won the first Great Women's Run in 2006. Liz assured herself of selection for Team GB when the first Briton across the line in the 2008 London Marathon where she also broke the two-and-half hour barrier for the first time with a time of 2:28.33. Liz, who came 25th at the 2004 Olympics, said: "The Great Run Series is excellent for bringing the most talented British runners together and providing them with a spring board to earning from their sport. "Competing together helps to raise everyone's game and they always have such a buzz to them and they really test you with their great international fields. These races let me know where I am at and motivate me to try harder." Great day outJenny Griggs is the events organiser from Nova International said: "Anyone is welcome if you're over 15 of any ability. You can walk, run or jog it and have a great day out."
