UK weather: Weekend to be mild and sunny at times
- Published
Following the wind and rain from Storm Ashley last Sunday, this weekend promises to be quieter.
For many it will stay dry with sunny spells, areas of cloud, and temperatures a little above the seasonal average.
October so far has been rather mixed across the UK. Some spots, especially in northern and western England and the Midlands, have been wetter than normal. Chillingham Barns in Northumberland has seen nearly twice its monthly rainfall already.
Meanwhile in much of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and East Anglia it has been a lot drier. Cavendish in Suffolk has only recorded 20% of its usual October rainfall and is unlikely to see much more in the coming days.
October sunshine on Saturday?
By Saturday an area of low pressure in the south-west will have filled and cleared but a weather front will bring more rain into north-west Scotland.
This will then push south-eastwards into Northern Ireland and the rest of Scotland by the end of the day. Behind this front lies some colder air.
There will be plenty of cloud with some drizzle across East Anglia and south-east England on Saturday.
Elsewhere there will be a decent amount of October sunshine to bask in, especially across central and western areas of England and Wales where temperatures will remain above the average at 17C.

Chilly start to Sunday
While Saturday night remains frost-free, as the cold front weakens and clears it will drag cooler air across the UK to greet Sunday morning and that extra hour in bed as the clocks go back.
So we will return to Greenwich Mean Time with a noticeably chilly start, with some sunshine but also some areas of mist and fog.
Any mist and low cloud will lift to leave a dry day with sunny spells for most of England and Wales.
There will, however, be another peppering of showers across north-west Scotland and more cloud and rain will move into Northern Ireland and the rest of Scotland after a dry start.
Into next week: What is in store for Halloween?
While Monday could bring rain across some central parts of England and Wales and rather cloudy conditions elsewhere, high pressure is set to become dominant again by Tuesday.
This means plenty of dry, settled weather although it could remain rather cloudy and mild, including for trick or treaters on Thursday night.
Change looks likely at the end of the week with colder, northerly winds developing into the start of November. Keep an eye on your local forecast here or look further ahead with our monthly outlook.
