Making Swindon greener

By Kelly Stooke
One of three possible sites in Swindon will be made greener and you can help decide which one.

You can vote for either the Town Garden at Old Town, Radnor Street Cemetary at Kingshill or the Edinburgh Street Community Garden at Gorse Hill to get a garden makeover.

Town Gardens are one of the nominations

Greenbridge Retail and Leisure Park are behind this, alongside Swindon Borough Council, and you can pick up a voting form from all stores at that part of town and then post it in the entry box outside Boots by the 31st of March.

The Graham Seaman Show decided to take a look at these three sites last Wednesday the 15th of March and you can hear parts of those interviews on FRESH this weekend.

If the Town Gardens are picked, it will be a sensory garden that is worked on. If the Radnor Street Cemetary is the choice, a wildlife memorial garden will be worked on in the nature reserve there. Finally, if the Edinburgh Street Community Garden is chosen then more greenery will be added to the area.

The Greenbridge Centre Manager, Simon Pullen, who joined me in looking at the sites said: "Green Force Garden Makeover supports the council's objective to create a better Swindon by 2010 by devising running and managing a regeneration project.听 All the nominated sites are important to the Swindon communities so this is a project we're very pleased to be launching."

Work on the winning site will probably start next month and if you fancy donning your wellies and helping out with the work, then call Kate Arnold on 0121 200 0780. They will be very pleased to hear from you. Otherwise, the Centre Manager Simon Pullen will be at the site digging on his own!

So which place do you think you will vote for? Whichever site wins the vote, 大象传媒 Radio Swindon will be there reporting on the action.
