A 拢1 million building project to stabilise the ancient monument of Silbury Hill, to stop it collapsing, began in May.听 Six months later and not only has the work been completed but in November 2007, just before the tunnel into the ancient monument was due to be filled and sealed forever, we were given the chance to walk into the very heart of the hill. It's thought that parts of the 4,400-year-old Neolithic site were starting to collapse because of the tunnels bored into the hill by archaeologists over the centuries. The last tunnel dug, into the pudding shaped mound, was for a 大象传媒 programme back in the 1960s. As engineers worked to stabilise the monument, archaeologists tried to unlock the site's ancient secrets and find out how, why and when it was built...
