One of the county's best-loved music festivals returns for a nineteenth year in July. The Larmer Tree Festival, held every year in the beautiful and unique Victorian Larmer Tree Gardens in Tollard Royal near Salisbury, boasts six stages, over 80 artists, 150 free workshops, street theatre, comedy and spoken word and much more. Unlike many similar events hosted around the country, the Larmer Tree Festival prides itself on being an intimate event aimed at all ages with a limited 4,000 capacity which all adds to its special atmosphere. Richard Thompson Voted 'Best Family Festival' at the 2008 UK Festival Awards, it's back once again with a line-up of top acts set to ensure the festival - which has sold out for the last fourteen years running - is another triumph in 2009.ÌýÌý Once again, Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will return for the 10th anniversary of his first appearance at the festival. This time round, on the opening night this year, he will be joined by a special guest - evergreen rocker Dave Edmunds. Jools has said of the festival: "The Larmer Tree is magical. There’s something about the trees - you can see them growing… the music gets their boogie muscles twitching." Multi-award winning virtuoso Richard Thompson, named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of all-time, has been announced as the Thursday night headliner this year. A founding member of 1960’s pioneering group Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson’s successful musical career has spanned almost four decades.Ìý Dreadzone He was awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Songwriting and in 2006 received the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Lifetime Achievement Award at the Radio 2 Folk Awards.Ìý He is considered one of world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters. Other acts joining Richard Thompson on Thursday 16th July include Dreadzone, Rich Hall aka Otis Lee Crenshaw, The Velvet Hearts, Tinderbox, Urusen, plus more to be announced.Ìý The Larmer Tree Festival 2009 is due to take place over five days from Tuesday 15th-Sunday 19th July 2009.
