Wonderful trip down memory lane, i worked at Tunbridge Wells telephone exchange in the 60's, when is went ove to STD, but spend many weeks 'releiving' at the old Crowborough, Lingfield and Uckfield exchanges, then at the old Hasting exchange where we had to stand up to reach some of the numbers, looking at those chairs, I now realise why I have a bad back!

Every day, 2 comcen staff would sit here or close by and change over tonights secure bid boxes....took most of day not a job we liked unless wanted to be out of way.
Tom
Thanks for the memories, Ive sat there many times.

This is the old BT frame room, looked after by permanant BT guys, located between Pabx and Comcen. Its where we changed aughorisation bids nightly.

Although most of em were not used, the pabx room was manned while I was at 6su in seventies and eightees by small crew of Wraf.

This must be preserved as a museum! All the pristine supplies, stocks, and equipment, make this like a time warp.

Do you have any photographs actually taken during war time on switchboard where I was a telephonist?
Is there a "Telephonists Re-united" page?
