As an ex-Swindonian it brought back many memories from my younger days

Vance Willis
My Uncle used to take me and my twin brother to the cattle market just behind the Bell in the 60s. We always got a bottle of pop and a bag of crisps from the Bell, happy days.

Are these photos brushed up? The town looks, well, presentable!

Photo 18 - must be earlier than 1970's - the Bank shown is the National Provincial, this merged with Westminster Bank in 1968 to form National Westminster. So this must be 1968 or earlier

David Wainwright
This Photo of Christ Church , The Victoria Pub and The Former Belle Vue Hotel (now Longs Bar) was taken pre 1967, my family moved into the Belle Vue in 1967 and the shpps in the foreground had been demolished by then . And also the balcony over the door to the public bar at the Victoria was gone by 1967, I think this must have been taken early on a Sunday morning as I remember it like this on Sunday mornings .

Picture 10 Sanford Street. This must have been taken earlier than 1970 as my wife was working in Bon Marche (now Debenhams) in 1969. The picture shows a crane - no building. this is probably mid 60's

I was looking back on the past, sitting at my computer in Toronto, Canada. It makes me feel homesick, finances make it a bit hard right now to make a trip to the U.k. Great photo's David!

How lovely it is to see fresh pictures of great architecture with character. Very refreshing to see the roads clear of congestion. Shame the council does not take such pride in Swindons apperance today!! remember the hot house from queens park as a child. Why have all the good educational things have been taken away???

Ellen Lee
Loved the clearness of the pictures, but it looks as though no one lived here. The lack of people is quite disturbing and not at all the busy place I remember.

Faial
I love the town and its enormous affinity.

TJ
Before my time, but this is really interesting.

Andrew Frost
