This double escalator is close to Area 20 on the very western most edge of the bunker...

Have Your Say
Sam B A lot of the galleries have someone saying that it should just be a prison. But it was never made or intended to be a prison. Just looking at the pictures one can see that most of the walls don't even go to the ceiling, let alone that fact that there would be costly changes and upgrades if it ever did get turned into a prison. I'd bet that the moving of convicts from place to place would be highly dangerous and someone would complain about their rights and having to be underground and yada yada...It should just be a museum. Then, money could be raised to help charity, and people would have the chance to view their history.
Maz in Devon I used to live down the road from this, its good to see it is being kept up together. But it seems a waste to let it rot. With the bad case we are in with the prisons why not convert it into prison space that we really need.
Robbie Fascinating! Imagine what interesting places there are now hidden in our country. This place should be preserved and opened to the public, the money earned could go to restoring other sites.
Burlyvole The first four photographs are of A exit which is at the east end of the Bunker, it is an escalater which has a spiral concrete staircase at the top.
Michael J Pearce I was employed in three of the underground quarries in between 1969 and 1977 but I don't know about this one, but I can guess from rumours.
Any chance of finding out someday
MIKE STASIW I find this underground place absolutely stunning and it should be preserved if possible as part of the "cold war" heritage.we have in this country.
Never heard if it before-is it open to the public ? open days perhaps ?
