I worked in the shop Rhapsody many years ago. It's no longer there. So many changes since I lived and worked in the town.

I lived on Clifton Street across the street from the shops with the cemetary behind us. I miss those days. The town has changed so much and not for the better I might add.

My gran Dorathy Huntley lived in No. 13 Eastcott Hill. I spent many a happy day/night at my grandparents house. I remember this view like it was yesterday.

As a born and bred Swindonian, I am facinated by this wonderful window on the past of my hometown.Although born in 1961, I remember many of the scenes from my childhood and am always on the lookout for landmarks, still visible over the passage of time. It also makes you realise some of the architecture we had in the town, now sadly gone forever.

The laundry opened in 1948 then later became Lunns fish and chip shop, both run by Mr and Mrs Soo. I think they were the first Chinese family in Swindon. I saw Mrs Soo recently, she still does not speak a word of English.

I've just spent a while looking at these excellent images when I came to commercial road, during my later years in the RAF we used to send our collars to be starched and polished to the chinese laundry there. What became of it and is commercial road still there or is it lost in the redevelopment?
