Great to walk down memory lane. I lived in Trowbridge from 1945 - 1952; my father was the manager of Fear Hills.

My ancestors ANDREWS lived in Trowbridge, Wiltshirein the 1800's. My great grandparents arrived in Australia in 1883.

Jean Baker (nee Forse)
Stumbled on this almost by accident - what a find and what a trip down memory lane. I was born in Trowbridge in 1939 and lived there until 1964, and remember so much of what I have seen in these pictures - wonderful!

A great collection. Do you have more? I would love to see pictures of the old bus station at conigre. Also, I can vaguely remember a large house somewhere down Hiperton Rd that was demolished about 1970ish but have never found records of this. Oh, and I can also remember playing in the fields at the back of Margaret Stancomb School (pics please) coming across a circular castle turret in the grounds of the Hospital? Must have been late 60s early 70s. Anyone any recollection of this?

Philip S Higginson

Wonderful to see how trowbridge used to be.Some of the old views i remember from childhood. One of my earliest memories is of being taken with my younger sister to see "santa"in Fear Hills Store,a magical shop,so it seemed to me at the time.I also recall seeing "santa" in Currys store which I believe is now Julian Graves. My first Saturday job aged 15 was in the International Stores, now Abbey National,I used to weigh up the loose biscuits, occasionally "testing" them when no-one was looking!!
