AAAAAAWWWWW! The new horse looks so new. Like it's just been done all over again...

Brian Parr
It is unfortunate that the original horse, which looked rather like a dachshund and faced in the opposite direction, was destroyed by one Mr. Gee, steward of Lord Abingdon, in 1778, so that nothing of its true history can now be gleaned. The proximity of the iron age fort known as Bratton Castle makes a comparison with the horse at Uffington valid. I suggest that the Westbury horse may have originally been the 'totem' of the tribe that lived hereabouts.

Keith Huggett.
What a load of whingers your readers are. Whatever work is undertaken to improve the local environment is good work. If, in their expert opinion, the work (or even the taking of the pictures) is not up to their demanding standrds then perhaps they should have got involved. My thanks to English Heritage, Westbury Town Council, Neil Goddard and al those unamed workers who did such a splendid job.

Am very happy to see this happen. No matter what the changes in environment, demographics etc. The White Horse remains constant and has always remained a favourite spot in all the world to me. I'm glad to see the monetary investment to its upkeep. We get involved in our daily lives and become remiss to the beautiful sites in the county that Wiltshire affords. The White Horse has always brought me solace and peace of mind and am forever greatful. Thank you.

Peter
And how long will it last this time?

Roger
Should look great but I would have thought the cracks would have been filled in first

roc
funny i thought that all the mounds, horses etc, were polished thus glistening with dew - according to the ancestors designs. I wonder if they had white paint factories in neolithic times. But then they didn't have 拢30kGP for it either. And is the paint to NT standards?

John
Interesting but I think photos should have been taken from a distance to show the progress of the painting.
