Sexual violence against women and children in conflict situations is a growing problem around the world.

In Africa, conflict situations like the DR Congo, Sudan's Dafur region and even refugee camps like the ones in Chad, are areas where concern has been raised.

The situation is made worse by a seeming culture of impunity and acceptance by society.

It is perhaps for this reason that the United Nations Secretary General has appointed a special envoy to intensify efforts to end sexual violence against women and children in conflicts.

Focus on Africa's Sophie Ikenye spoke to Margot Wallstrom on the line to Brussels. She is the new appointee and the current vice president of the European Commission.
