"As abhorrent and delusional as they are predictable". The US response to claims by the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the US government was behind the 9/11 attacks. He made the claims whilst addressing the UN General Assembly in New York. The US delegation walked out and was joined by representatives from all the EU countries, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Costa Rica.
It comes just just hours after US President Barack Obama seemed to take a softer line with Iran than often in the past.

Salil Wadnerkar - I think it is a mistake to assume that iranian president is a egomaniac, attention seeker who is just after getting more media coverage. As many of the comments by Muslim readers confirm, he says is what many Muslims believe.

Melissa C on the blog - It's a horrible shame that the Iranian people have to suffer because their government is corrupt and led by a Supreme Leader who thinks he's God and a President who was highly unlikely fairly elected as their President.

Alan in Arizona on the blog - For a couple of minutes there I thought I was listening to a sitcom script he wrote and he was doing a stand-up routine for the UN. Then I stopped laughing and realized that he was serious!

Ramo Lekic - How should we deal with him? He's a sovereign leader who, I believe, brought up a few good points at the UN Assembly, and his words reflect, albeit a small percentage of us, the thoughts and rhetoric of many Americans.

The Iranian leader maybe difficult and says stupid things . But stop this rubbish about wiping Israel off the map. Israel want and are actually doingthat to Palestine now. No one has the right to a Nuclear weapon. If not every one has.

Kos emailed - We are giving too much attention to Ahmadinedjad. He is a caricature dictator, who has no real power or credibility even in his own country. I fully support President Obama's effort to build bridges. But we will not be able to have a serious conversation with Iran, as long as such a psychopath is their representative.

Alex emailed - Unfortunately, the war against Iraq has handed the initiative to the demagogues in Iran. Removing Saddam took out the one regional check that existed and now there is no appetite, and fewer resources, to pursue a military solution against this evil regime.
