Pantomime: Cinderella: Part One

Finn, Derm, Natalie and Alice in the 大象传媒 Learning English panto

There is a type of British theatre that is colourful, unique and a bit strange. I'm sure you know about some of the odd traditions that the British have but nothing is as odd as the pantomime.

You can now enjoy some of the pantomime experience by listening to the 大象传媒 Learning English team perform their very own adaption of the story of Cinderella. The story is set a long time ago in a land far far away. Cinderella lives in a large house with her two ugly step sisters, who really aren't that nice to her. She leads a really miserable life but all that is about to change.

The British Pantomime Tradition

It's an idea that originates in Greece but came to the UK hundreds of years ago and has become something that gets performed around Christmas and New Year time. Pantomime is a mix of music, dance, slapstick and buffoonery. There are colourful and outrageous costumes. It is a fun, family feast of entertainment and tends to be watched at this time of the year.

The stories are based on traditional children's stories but are adapted and re-told in a different way. You may be familiar with some of these stories: Aladdin, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella.
