Last month 16 year old Derrion Albert was killed by gangs in Chicago as he walked home from school.
It could have been just another example of the violence endemic on the city鈥檚 streets. However the incident was filmed and posted on the internet. The footage stunned America, turning a local problem into a national issue.
The Reverend Jesse Jackson described Chicago鈥檚 teenage violence as a "state of emergency" and the Attorney General said the killing was a "stark wake-up call."
One person who wants to solve the problem is Pastor Tim White.
He knows the dangers on Chicago's streets only too well. He was once a gang leader and now works for a charity called CeaseFire, using former gang members to help end the violence.
Pastor Tim White spoke to Outlook and explained to Matthew Bannister the challenges of his work on the streets of Chicago.
