Return To 'Nam

The Vietnamese refugee who left on a fishing boat but returned on a battleship - as an American Navy Commander.

For the American sailors docking in Vietnam's port of Da Nang, it was surely an exotic stop over.

But for the commander of the USS Lassen, it was more than a routine port call.

For US Commander Hung Ba Le, the trip marked an epic return.

Thirty five years ago, Commander Le was just five years old when he fled the Vietnam war.

His return was his first to his country of birth, but it was also momentous in style.

He and his parents had left on a fishing boat, but he was returning now on a US battleship - as an American Navy Commander.

Matthew Bannister spoke to Commander Le and asked him all about his daring departure and his unusual return.
