Chasing The Sun

When Bertrand Piccard sets off on his next trip abroad he plans to follow the sun. Literally. For Bertrand plans to fly round the world in a solar powered aircraft.

In the tiny space of the plane he will be unable to move or to sleep for more than 20 minutes at a time. If he nods off for longer he could crash and die.

For most people being strapped into such a tight space would be torture.

But for Bertrand Piccard this will be a dream come true.

It's not the first time Dr. Piccard has been involved in a pioneering adventure.

In 1999 he and a colleague were the first people to fly non stop round the world in a balloon.

And he also comes from a family of adventurers.

His grandfather inspired the character of Professor Calculus in the Tintin stories.

And his father gave his name to the commander of the Star Ship Enterprise - Jean Luc Piccard in Star Trek.

Matthew Bannister spoke to Bertrand Piccard and asked him about his epic adventure chasing the sun in a solar powered plane.
