A True Contender

The female boxer who fought her way from the Zambian slums to a life of riches as a world champion contender.

Esther Phiri may have started life in a Zambian slum, but she has fought her way to fame and riches - quite literally, because Esther is a champion female boxer.

Boxing has made her a role model for many young girls, and Zambia's best-known, best-loved athlete.

In her early twenties, she's already won five belts and is fighting for her sixth on Saturday when she faces American Terri Blair for the WIBA welterweight title.

Jo Fidgen went to meet the boxing champion at one of the four houses she owns, and took a look at Esther's title belt collection.
