Since the armed uprising began in Indian-administered Kashmir in 1989, the Himalayan state has seen countless gun-battles between Islamic militants and Indian security forces.

The government says nearly 50,000 have been killed over two decades, including ordinary civilians, separatist militants, and Indian security force personnel.

Of those who have died, the majority are brought to the police hospital in the capital Srinagar for post-mortem examinations.

However, there is just one paramedic to perform the autopsies.

That man is Mohammad Maqbool.

He says he has a mission: to serve the dead of Kashmir.
