Attitudes towards death and dying vary from society to society. In the UK, death is often seen as the last taboo - better not discussed unless absolutely necessary and then dealt with discreetly when it happens.

But in the broadcaster Tessa Dunlop's family, things were very different.

When her father Donald was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he wanted his body to go on being useful even after he died.

So he decided that, rather than being buried or cremated, he would give his body to medical research.

Donald and Tessa then discovered that there's a real shortage of bodies for research and medical learning in the UK.

For Outlook, Tessa Dunlop put together this report on her father's decision to leave his body to medical research.
