Rima Fakih may have started off life as a bit of a tomboy, but she has just been crowned Miss USA. What is even more significant, though, is the fact that she is the first Arab-American to win the beauty contest.
Her family is from southern Lebanon and moved to the US when Rima was a child.
For some Muslims, the image of a woman parading around in a swimsuit to win a beauty contest is not something they are happy with.
But in Rima's hometown of Dearborn in Michigan, many Arabs took to the streets to celebrate.
Rima spoke to Outlook's Aasmah Mir and described how it had felt to win the competition.
