Forgiving my violent husband
When Canadian Shannon Moroney was on her first date with Jason Staples in 2002, he revealed that in 1988 he had murdered his female flatmate.
He had been sentenced to life in prison and was out on parole when they met. Shannon believed that Jason was a reformed character and fell in love with him. They married in 2005.

A month after their wedding, while Shannon was away from home attending a conference, Jason kidnapped two women and subjected them to violence and sexual assault. It emerged that he had also been videoing Shannon and other visitors to the house with a tiny camera he had hidden in their bathroom.
After a court case lasting over two years, Jason was declared a 'dangerous offender' and is now serving an indeterminate term in prison.
Shannon is now divorced from Jason and has a new partner but continues to visit him in prison and says she "accepts him as a human being". In a candid interview with Matthew Bannister, Shannon talks about her relationship with Jason and the transforming power of forgiveness in her life.
