Photographing sharks close-up

Brian Skerry has spent the last 30 years taking photos of creatures of the deep, but he has a particular love of sharks.

Brian is a photographer for National Geographic magazine and he has been all over the world taking pictures.

However he is very concerned about the reputation sharks have, and the fact they are endangered.

Sharks are very complex he says, and are not just the man-eaters depicted in horror movies.

Brian spoke to Outlook and described his quest to photograph one species in particular - the elusive oceanic white tip shark.
