Sister Mercy Mutyambizi runs a Catholic orphanage in Harare which is full of babies and children abandoned by desperate mothers.
Sister Mercy founded the orphanage in 1992. Her compassionate pragmatism has saved a great many lives
大象传媒 Correspondent Mike Thomson visited Shengu Dzevena Trust Orphanage 16 months ago, and heard how unwanted babies had been found on garbage dumps, railway lines, in rivers, and even in trees.
Sister Mercy told him that this frightening trend was the result of terrible poverty, rampant inflation, and an increase in HIV/AIDS.
Mike has just returned to the orphanage to find out whether the country's slowly improving economic and political situation has lessened the plight of these children.
