Scientists have predicted that Africa will suffer more than most continents from the effects of climate change, even though it contributes least to greenhouse gas emissions.
African government ministers are meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to try to work out a common position before the big global climate change meeting in Copenhagen in December.
Wangari Maathai is Africa's best-known environmentalist.
She won the Nobel Peace Prize for her contribution to sustainable development and campaigns against the exploitation of forests.
