When the Berlin Wall came crashing down 20 years ago it took with it a system of government in East Germany which had become the focus of growing popular discontent.

But - whether they were in favour or against the changes - everyone who lived in the old German Democratic Republic saw a way of life come to an end on November 9, 1989.

Nadja Korinth is a freelance journalist who sometimes works for the ´óÏó´«Ã½.

She grew up in Leipzig, East Germany.
